Stellan Skarsgård reacts to Trump’s Greenland demands: “It’s absurd, isn’t it? It’s a little man who got megalomania, and he’s trying to take the world. He took Venezuela, suddenly, and that’s for Chevron. He’ll take Greenland for minerals. He’s a criminal.”

\> The Swedish actor and Norwegian Sentimental Value director Joachim Trier, whose home countries are Denmark’s closest neighbors, were asked for their thoughts on the situation during the winners’ press conference at the European Film Awards in Berlin on Saturday night. \> “You want us to comment on what’s happening in Greenland?,” said Skarsgård, who then launched into a characteristically forthright reply. \> “It’s absurd, isn’t it? It’s a little man who got megalomania, and he’s trying to take the world. He took Venezuela, suddenly, and that’s for Chevron. He’ll take Greenland for minerals. He’s a criminal,” said Skarsgård, who also won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor last week. \> He was alluding to news that the U.S. is pushing to expand energy giant Chevron’s license for its oil production in Venezuela in the wake of its military operation in early January removing incumbent Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro from power. \> Trier, whose films are imbued with a humanist approach, took a more measured tone in his response. \> “Sitting in Europe today. I think that what we’ve learned from history is that the idea of appropriation of other countries and the idea of colonialization is something that we suffer through guilt for in Europe, in the sense that we are trying to move forward from that idiotic idea,” he said.   \> “Denmark has come a long way in apologizing and trying to make good for their appropriation of Greenland in the past, and Greenland is for people from Greenland. So, this idea of reappropriating it for another culture, when Denmark has been very clear that America can, through NATO Alliance, protect Greenland if they feel like it in a greater military capacity, and now this is happening. I agree with Stellen that it’s an absurd notion, and international law must be respected, because grinding that down will have such tremendous domino effects on how other superpowers will treat other countries, so the dominant effect of that is extremely worrying, if it is to happen,” he concluded.

What's going on with the protests in Minnesota?

https://edition.cnn.com/2026/01/16/us/trump-insurrection-act-minneapolis-protests-hnk Here on the European side of the Atlantic, the most dominating news story these days is Donald Trump's threat of invading Greenland, which escalated yesterday after his announcement to impose new tariffs on NATO allies that support Greenland. The media did extensively report about what happened to Renee Good and we do get good coverage of atrocities committed by ICE, but current events in Minnesota are overshadowed by Greenland. What exactly is happening in Minnesota right now? And what has the response been to these protests?

EU holds back €93B trade bazooka as it seeks diplomacy with US over Greenland tariff threat

Note: ‘Holds back’ means the trade bazooka is on standby while they talk things out first. They are still preparing the retaliation package and may use it if Trump goes through with tariffs on Feb 1st. — Source: [ https://www.euronews.com/2026/01/18/eu-holds-back-trade-bazooka-as-it-seeks-diplomatic-solution-with-the-us-over-greenland ](https://www.euronews.com/2026/01/18/eu-holds-back-trade-bazooka-as-it-seeks-diplomatic-solution-with-the-us-over-greenland) The European Union backed off from triggering a trade ‘bazooka’ in retaliation for US President Donald Trump’s tariff threats over Greeland during an urgent meeting in Brussels on Sunday, people familiar with the talks told Euronews. EU member states want to first prioritise dialogue and diplomacy with the US, and will in the meantime hold off from triggering any retaliatory measures, the sources said. The EU could however revive a €93-billion retaliation package targeting US products if Trump follows through on his threat to slap an additional 10% tariff on eight European countries — including Denmark, Germany and France — on February 1, the sources added. A decision on whether to reinstate the tariffs, suspended last year, will be taken after that deadline. The €93-billion package was prepared amid uncertainty last year over whether Trump would agree to a EU-US trade deal, and foresees retaliatory EU tariffs of up to 30% on a range of US products from cars to poultry. Meanwhile, European Council President António Costa has convened an extraordinary summit of EU leaders in the "coming days." A source familiar with the matter suggested the summit will take place on Thursday, January 22.

Trump is not the one calling the shots. When will people understand?

Trump is just the frontman. The elites are the ones who pull the strings. They are behind Trump, who is just their puppet. That is why it does not matter whether it is Trump or Biden. The agenda stays the same. All the Venezuela/Greenland/Gaza/Iran stuff, people focus all their anger on Trump while missing the bigger picture. He is not calling the shots. He is a puppet, just like Biden was. Different faces, same system. Do you really think someone with deep Epstein connections would still be allowed anywhere near power if he wasnt part of the elites? The reason he survives politically is because the same people at the top back him. If he wasn't part of the elites he would've been impeached and jailed LONG ago. But nothing will happen to him. Guess why? Btw pointing this out is not defending Trump, ofcourse Trump is 100% guilty too. But my point is that the problem is much bigger than one man and cannot be fixed by simply changing presidents. As long as people argue about personalities, the real power structure behind the scenes stays untouched. Which is exactly what the elites want. They do not want the spotlight on them.
